White Chocolate Cranberry Cookies in a Jar

10-12-2013_02 copy

I have a recipe for you today.. not only are these cookies delicious, but layered in a jar like this, they make a perfect gift! Only 3 ingredients need to be added to the contents of the jar before baking so anyone can definitely make these. You could, of course, also mix the ingredients together in a bowl if you plan to bake and eat them straightaway.

The cranberries and white chocolate go nicely together, and the pop of red makes these cookies perfect for Christmas.

White Chocolate Cranberry Cookies in a Jar
Adapted from Taste of Home’s Best Loved Cookies and Bars

Yield: 1 jar, or approximately 2 dozen cookies

(For assembling the jar)
3/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp baking soda
1/8 tsp salt
1/3 cup granulated white sugar
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup quick-cooking oats
1 cup dried cranberries
1 cup white chocolate chips

(For baking the cookies)
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract

You will also need a 1 quart glass jar and a funnel.

Filling the Jar:
In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Layer ingredients into the jar using the funnel (or a piece of rolled up paper) in the following order, from first to last (or bottom to top):
White sugar
Brown sugar
Flour mixture
Dried cranberries
White chocolate chips

Making the cookies:
Preheat oven to 375 F (190 C/ gas mark 5)
Empty jar into large bowl. Mix in melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Refrigerate, covered, for 30 minutes.
Drop tablespoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Enjoy!

If you’re giving these as a gift, please remember to include the baking instructions (and the “for baking the cookies” ingredient quantities) for your recipient! You can print them or even write them out on a lovely gift tag.

I hope you enjoy the cookies if you make them! Let me know in the comments what your favourite holiday treats are! Happy Holidays!
